A new project in Brazil would bring a casino resort to Mato Grosso
Senator Angelo Coronel is set to present a new project that would bring about the legalization of gambling in Brazil. In a report from O Antagonista, shared by BNL Data, it was revealed that Coronel believes games of chance are “games of fortune” and that, as part of his new project, the state of Mato Grosso would host a casino resort.
The senator’s report will be presented in the chamber once it resumes normal activities. Coronel is currently the rapporteur on another bill, presented in 2019 by Senator Roberto Rocha, which also seeks the installation of casinos in resorts.
As reported by local media, Malai Manso, the Mato Grosso resort located in Chapada dos Guimarães, would have one of these casinos.
In addition, it is expected that the revenue from gambling and casinos would fund assistance programs. This would also be one of the key elements of the reelection campaign of current President Jair Bolsonaro in 2022.
Last month, Senator Irajá Abreu introduced bill 4,495/2020 to legalize casino resorts to boost tourism in Brazil. “The legalization of casino gambling inside integrated tourist facilities, followed by a concession process to exploit these services, will attract large investments to the Brazilian tourism market, and will boost the economic activity of all regions of this country,” he said.
The provisions of the project dictate that the development of integrated resorts should only allocate a 10% of the total space to the casino area. Furthermore, the federal government would have the exclusive power “to grant licenses, regulate and moderate those services, [as well as the] implementation and operation of the activities of casino resorts”.
