93 people arrested for online gambling
KUNMING -- Police in Southwest China's Yunnan province have arrested 93 individuals suspected of involvement in an online gambling case, the public security bureau of Zhaotong city announced on Sunday.
Police said that more than 900 million yuan (about $124.6 million) was involved in the case. A total of seven online gambling apps have been shut down.
In 2021, police in Zhaotong found that an individual surnamed Wang, along with others, had organized gambling activities on internet platforms with huge capital flows. The police then established a task force to investigate the case.
They found an internet technology company had developed gambling apps and designated regional agents at varying levels in a pyramid structure. After 16 months of investigation, the police raided nine gang premises inside or outside of the province, seizing some 80 mobile phones and 27 computers.
