OAKTON, VA — An Oakton man wasn't the winner of the $699.8 million Powerball jackpot in early October, but he still came away a million dollars richer.

Don Slade claimed a $1 million prize with an online ticket bought for the Oct. 4 Powerball drawing. He won by matching the first five winning numbers, missing only the Powerball number. The winning numbers in the Oct. 4 drawing were 12-22-54-66-69, and the Powerball number was 15.

Slade told the Virginia Lottery "It feels fantastic" to have won the $1 million prize. The chances of winning the jackpot by matching all six numbers are 1 in 292.2 million. The odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25.

The winner of the $699.8 million jackpot was from California. The jackpot was the fifth-highest prize in Powerball history and seventh-highest in all U.S. lottery games, according to CNBC.

The latest jackpot value is $146 million with the next drawing happening on Saturday, Nov. 6. Drawings are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. In Virginia, Powerball is available online as well as Mega Millions, Cash4Life Pick 4 and Pick 3, and dozens of online-only instant games.
