What happens to unclaimed CT Lottery tickets?
The Connecticut Lottery is seeking the winners of three unclaimed lottery prizes, with the most recent being a winning Cash5 ticket drawn on Sept. 16 and sold in Stamford worth $100,000. While there is no word yet on if the winners came forward to claim their tickets, winners have 180 days to present tickets to the Lottery’s Rocky Hill headquarters. In recent Connecticut lottery history, there have been several prizes that have gone unclaimed — or were claimed just past the expiration date.
There were $309 million in unclaimed state lottery prizes between 1997 and 2019, a total that includes unclaimed money from scratch-off tickets and draw games such as Powerball and Lotto, according to previous Hearst Connecticut reporting. And an unclaimed winning lottery ticket — or rather one claimed too late — actually made headlines for trying to change legislation back in the 90s.
