What Happened with the Texas Casino Bill?
The iGaming market in the US is estimated to be worth $59.6 billion in 2020. The revenue forecast for 2027 is $127.3 billion. Texas is opposed to online gambling and recently saw a casino bill defeated without making it to the floor.
The Texas Casino Bill was passed recently. Online gambling will be legalised in the state of Texas.
The Las Vegas Sands resort tried to introduce a bill to legalise online gambling and sports betting in Texas. The bill failed to get passed despite the resort's extensive efforts. It was the latest attempt to bring iGaming to Texas residents. The legislative session ended on May 31st. This means that the attempts to legalize online gaming and betting are futile for the time being. First lady Jill Biden is visiting Texas in the coming days.
The proposed Texas Casino Bill would have been an ambitious project. The only legal betting in Texas is the state lottery, parimutuel wagering on horse and greyhound races, charitable bingo, raffles and Indian casinos. Texas first legalised pari-mutuel betting during the Great Depression. In 1987, the Texas Racing Commission was established to oversee this. Indian Gaming Regulatory Act established the rights of tribes to operate any kind of gambling elsewhere in the State.
The latest bill to legalize online gambling in Texas was not passed. Las Vegas Sands' Senior Vice President Andy Abboud has reiterated the group's desire to achieve this objective. He also said that the feedback pertaining to the bill had been overwhelmingly positive.
