A wave of casino winnings is continuing in Nevada, where event schedules are expanding and a monthly revenue report showed gambling back at pre-coronavirus pandemic levels.
Casinos statewide took in almost $1.2 billion in house winnings in September, the state Gaming Control Board reported Wednesday. The figure marked seven straight months of $1 billion or more — one short of a record eight-month streak set before the Great Recession in 2007.
Statewide, casinos reported taking in almost $1.2 billion during the month, up 9.4% from the $1.1 billion “casino win” reported in September 2019.
Board senior analyst Michael Lawton noted there were two Las Vegas Raiders home games at Allegiant Stadium last month; an MMA bout at T-Mobile Arena; and a weekend of NASCAR races at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A three-night “Life is Beautiful” music festival also drew thousands of fans to downtown Las Vegas.
Sports betting set a record, with $786.5 million in wagers placed and $54.2 million in winnings by sports books statewide. Lawton said 63% of those bets were placed through mobile apps.
The robust September figures followed a record nearly $1.4 billion in casino winnings in July and $1.2 billion in August.
The state reaped $72.9 million in tax revenues based on September figures, the report said.
