Unique lotto jackpot means Irish punters could win big without matching all numbers
Irish lotto players could be in for a big win with more chances of bagging huge cash prizes without needing to match every number.
The current lotto jackpot sits at a whopping €18.96 million. The Irish National Lottery has capped the jackpot here, so no more will be added until another big win takes home the huge sum.
A lotto spokesperson said: “Once the jackpot exceeds the cap, no more money will be added to the jackpot prize until it is won.”
“The funds that would normally go to the jackpot will be distributed to the next lower prize tier at which there are winners.”
If no players have a ticket matching all six numbers and a bonus number, players who have five matches could win the excess cash that would have been added to the jackpot.
Last night's draw had no jackpot winner, but over 204,000 players saw cash prizes. The biggest winner was one lucky player in Kerry who won a staggering €250,000 with an online ticket.
Hopeful players are in with a chance of bagging the jackpot on Wednesday night when the lotto is drawn again.
The massive €19 million sum represents the highest jackpot ever bagged by an Irish ticket holder, won by the Dan Morrissey syndicate in Carlow back in 2008.
But if you are lucky enough to win the jackpot this week, the jackpot cap could be upped for the next fortunate lotto winner.
