Twitch bans gambling meta by banning roulette, referral codes & links for slots

Twitch is restricting referral codes/links to slots, roulettes, and other gambling streams on its platform to safeguard its viewers from potential frauds and hazardous content.
On Twitch, popular content creators such as xQc and Trainwrecks have championed the gambling meta. However, the platform has now removed the most compelling reason to run those streams in the first place.
Twitch issued a message to their creators on August 11 instructing them to remove any material that promotes links or referral codes to services that have fueled the gamba meta.
Streamers will have less than a week to remove their channels and VODs from the new rules, which will take effect in less than a week. Twitch will decide whether or not to take any additional action against gambling streams.
“To prevent harm and scams created by questionable gambling services that sponsor content on Twitch, we will prohibit sharing links and/or referral codes to sites that offer slots, roulette, or dice games,” a Twitch advisory said.
“We will continue to monitor gambling-related content and update our approach as needed. To give you time to remove this content from your channel, enforcement will be delayed until August 17, 2021.”
This comes after streamers like Pokimane, Asmongold, MoistCr1TiKaL, and others have spoken out against gambling on Twitch. Trainswrecks and xQc, for example, claim that their content is transparent and above water.
Without the benefits of referral codes and links, Twitch streamers, and to a lesser extent the gambling sites with which they collaborate, will have considerably less of a motivation to run those streams.
While such streams will not be overtly banned, this is a clear response to Twitch’s gambling meta, which has been constantly developing.
