Tourist Wins More Than $600K at Las Vegas Airport Slot Machine
Most people don’t expect to play an airport slot machine and win big — but Brittany, a lucky woman who hails from Texas, won $643,435 at a Wheel of Fortune slot machine in Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport.
The winning machine is located in Terminal 1, Gate A. It caters to passengers flying with a wide range of airlines, including: Allegiant, American, Avelo, Delta, Southwest, and Spirit.
"Congrats to Brittany, from Texas, who raked in $643,435.00 playing Wheel of Fortune in the A Gates. Will YOU be the next winner?!" reads a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) from Harry Reid International Airport. The post included a photo of the lucky tourist posing in front of the brightly colored slot machine.
Oddly though, getting lucky at Harry Reid International isn’t out of the ordinary. PEOPLE reported in June that a traveler passing through the airport won the $1.3 million jackpot while playing the “Wheel of Fortune Triple Double Emeralds” machine in the Terminal 1 Esplanade.
X user Derek Nicoletto broke the news in a post that read: “Someone just won the 1.3 million jackpot on the slot machine at the airport!” He also included a video that captured the exciting moment. The name of the tourist was never publicly released.
“That’s one way to end a vacation — as a MILLIONAIRE!” the airport posted to Facebook after confirming the person had, in fact, won the jackpot.
Harry Reid International Airport’s slot machines have brought in more than $1 billion over the past 36 years, according to The Las Vegas Review-Journal and FOX affiliate KVVU-TV — a statistic that was garnered by Michael Gaughan’s Airport Slot Concession, Inc. in October 2022.
But this doesn’t even compare to the major Powerball winnings from this past summer.
On July 19, one lucky person won the Powerball, when the jackpot was at more than $1.08 billion. It was the seventh-largest U.S. lottery jackpot on record, and the third largest Powerball jackpot, specifically.
The winner was based in California, and the winning ticket was purchased at Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles.
“California has a new Powerball BILLIONAIRE!" California lottery officials wrote on X after the winner was announced. “One lucky ticket sold at Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles was the only ticket across the country to match all 6 numbers in the July 19 #Powerball draw, winning the $1 Billion Powerball jackpot."
