Station Casinos’ new Durango casino and resort plans to open in 2023 with a food hall and four restaurants

Southwest Las Vegas has few standalone casinos. The Silverton on Blue Diamond Road near the I-15 serves the area, but otherwise, those who want to play table games or make a night of dining and drinking at a local resort have to drive up to Red Rock Resort, Suncoast, or Rampart Casino to the north or even South Point to find a locals’ casino. In 2022, Station Casinos plans to break ground on a new resort at west of Durango Drive and south of the 215 Beltway, across from Ikea and next to the new UnCommons that plans to open in 2022. Durango plans to open as soon at 2023 with a hotel, casino floor, four restaurants, a food hall, and meeting and convention space all in the $400 million to $500 million range.

Station Casinos bought the land from developer Jim Rhodes in 2000, and announced initial plans to open Durango Station in 2004. By 2009, the gaming company revisited plans for the resort, a scaled down version that never started development. The latest plans call for an 83,178-square-foot casino with a 211-room hotel tower that rises 216 feet. Station Casinos noted earlier this year that the sale of the Palms for $650 million to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians would help finance this resort.

Perhaps most exciting, the prospect of four food and beverage outlets and a food hall with fast-casual eateries from local restaurants. Initial plans called for a 3,360-square-foot food hall, a 3,279-square-foot lobby bar, a sports book and restaurant measuring 7,984 square feet, and two restaurants, one at 1,407 square feet and the other at 1,679 square feet. All plan to feature patios. Think of a facade reminiscent of the front of Red Rock Resort with patios spilling out from the front of the resort.

Durango also plans to have a pool with private cabanas and an event lawn, as well as charging stations for electric vehicles.

This is just phase one of the project that could potentially add a second hotel tower, more gaming and banquet space, and a theater.
