Rival Atlantic City Casinos Borgata, Ocean Unexpectedly Settle Lawsuit
Borgata dropped its lawsuit against Ocean Casino. The action came less than two weeks after a court accepted Borgata’s request to file an amended complaint.
Borgata filed a complaint against Ocean on April 20, 2021. The parties amicably resolved their disputes on 24 April 2021, but the Court has jurisdiction to enforce the agreement.
Rival Atlantic City Casinos Borgata and Ocean settle the lawsuit. The parties will bear their own attorneys' fees and costs.
Ocean Casino settled the lawsuit against Borgata. The case centered on the hiring of a dozen executives who had worked for Borgatas. They were accused of stealing trade secrets from their work phones. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. Kelly Ashman Burke, former executive director of marketing at Borgati, was ordered not to start work at Ocean for 11 months. William Callahan, vice president of Marketing, copied key information about clients from his work phone to a new phone.
Ocean, which will open in 2018, occupies the grounds of the ill-fated Revel casino. Borgata is the king of Atlantic City since it opened in 2003. Ocean is Borgat's direct competitor for high-level casino customers. In March, gross gaming revenue figures provided by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement, Borgati led the way at $46.5 million. Hard Rock, the city's other casino to open 2018 is in the middle at $30.7 million, while Ocean placed third at about $20.1 million in that month.
