Peru President Signs Online Gaming Law Into Effect
Law 31,557 was signed into effect by president Pedro Castillo Terrones on August 12. It regulates the operation of online casino gambling and sports betting activities in Peru. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism has 120 days to decide upon all the details.
Peru's president signed the law on online gambling into effect last Friday. The law was passed by Congress in July. Mincetur will be the administrative gambling authority. It will issue authorizations to casino and sports betting operators and regulate and supervise their activities.
Peru President Signs Online Gaming Law into Effect. It does not allow minors to take part in remote casino gambling and sports betting. Problem gamblers are also prohibited from engaging in these activities. Remote sports gambling venues will not be allowed at less than 492 feet away from schools or religious temples. Operators may face a 12% tax applied to their net incomes. 40% of the collected tax will go to the public treasury, 40%. 20% will be used to promote a series of programs implemented by the government.
