The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported $173.4 million in internet casino revenue for April, a sizable year-over-year increase that fell short of setting a record for the third consecutive month.

The digital haul was part of an April in which the state agency reported $504.7 million in revenue from iGaming, brick-and-mortar casinos, video gaming terminals (VGTs), fantasy sports, and sports betting. That was up 5.9% from April 2023 and resulted in $209.9 million in overall tax revenue.

Internet casino revenue was up 26.4% from last year and was the third-highest total overall behind the record $191.1 million in March and $184.9 million in February. Operator winnings for the first four months of 2024 are just shy of $700 million and up 27.1% compared to the same period in 2023. Wagering totaled more than $6 billion for the second consecutive month and third time overall as the total amount wagered since internet casino gaming launched in Pennsylvania in July 2019 exceeded $200 billion.

Of the $75.6 million in total online casino gaming taxes generated, $49.5 million went to the state.

Though still lagging far behind brick-and-mortar casino slots, which provided the biggest chunk of operator revenue at $205.5 million, their digital counterparts saw the biggest year-over-year increase in revenue in terms of percentage. The $126 million in online casino slot winnings represented a 31.8% increase, while internet casino table revenue was up a more modest 15.8% to $45 million.

Hollywood Casino, home to DraftKings, BetMGM, and ESPN BET for online skins, paced Pennsylvania casino license-holders with $62.3 million in total revenue, up 6.5% from last year. Slot revenue from Hollywood topped $40 million for the third consecutive month at $43.3 million, ranking fourth all-time.

Valley Forge Casino, which houses FanDuel, reported a 54% year-over-year surge in revenue to $48.1 million. That was second only to its $50.8 million generated in March as revenue cleared $40 million for the sixth straight month. The $185.3 million in year-to-date winnings reported by Valley Forge is 54.2% higher compared to the first four months of 2023.

Fueled by just its third month with $1 billion in total wagers, Rivers Casino’s online trio of BetRivers, Play SugarHouse, and the Borgata reported $30.6 million — an increase of 17.3% from last year. It ranks third all-time behind March ($32.8 million) and last December ($31.3 million) as drop surpassed $1 billion for the first time since February 2023.

Caesars Palace Online, tethered to Harrah’s Philadelphia, more than doubled its revenue year-over-year to $9.4 million. It was the fourth time in the last five months Harrah’s topped $9 million in revenue, and the $38.1 million in 2024 winnings is up 108% from the opening four months of last year.

Pennsylvania’s 17 casinos reported $284 million in revenue, down 4.5% from April 2023. Table games revenue was down 7% to $78.5 million, while the drop in slot winnings was softer at 3.5%.

Despite the statewide drop in winnings on the felt, Wind Creek still eked out a year-over-year gain of 1.5% to lead all venues with $21.9 million. PARX Casino was the only other location with an eight-figure revenue haul from table games, with its $15.7 million in winnings practically flat from the previous April.

Live! Casino in Philadelphia was able to keep its grip on the No. 3 spot with $7.7 million, though that was 21.7% lower than last year. BetRivers’ Philadelphia and Pittsburgh venues rounded out the top five as the duo combined for $13 million in winnings.

PARX was tops in slot revenue at $31.6 million, which was down nearly 5% from last year. Wind Creek’s year-over-year decline of 5.5% was not enough to shake it from the No. 2 spot at $22.6 million, and it gained some separation from Rivers’ Pittsburgh venue, which had winnings fall off 8.5% to $21.6 million.

Six other casinos reported at least $10 million in slot revenue, but of the group, only Live! in Philadelphia posted a year-over-year gain. Revenue there rose 13.7% to $12.6 million, good for sixth among the 17 casinos overall.

Rivers’ two locations combined for $33.6 million in slot winnings while the Cordish Companies-owned Live! venues in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh potted $21.7 million between them. Both Live! locations bucked the statewide trend with double-digit percentage increases compared to April 2023.
