PA Gaming Board To Host Public Hearing For Proposed Nittany Mall Casino
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will host a hearing next month to receive public input on a mini-casino that’s planning to open at the Nittany Mall.
The hearing, set for 4 p.m. on Monday, August 16, at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center, will let the public weigh in on the planned College Township casino.
Last September, investor and former Penn State trustee Ira Lubert won a $10 million bid at an auction for a new license for a “category four” casino in Centre County. Bally’s Corporation signed an agreement with Lubert to develop the planned $120 million casino.
According to College Township, the casino would sit where Macy’s used to at the Nittany Mall. It could feature up to 750 slot machines and 30 table games on top of a restaurant and other entertainment venues. If separate licenses are obtained, it could house areas for sports betting and additional gambling.
Once licenses are obtained and permits are approved, construction on the casino should begin later this year and last for about a year before completion.
The public hearing is open to the public and available to stream online once it begins in August. A page on the board’s website will debut on July 21 and contain additional information for the hearing.
Community members who wish to speak or submit a written testimony must register by noon on Thursday, August 12.
