Nirmala Sitharaman calls online gaming "nothing but gambling". She also said on the issue of extending the Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation from June 30, the views of some states were heard so far but nothing was decided.
Nirmala Sitharaman said casinos, horse-racing and online gaming are gambling. She was speaking at the end of the two-day meeting of Goods and Services Tax Council. The GoM on betting, casinos and horse racing, which are taxed at 28%, will submit its report on July 15. It will be discussed at next Council meeting in Tamil Nadu's Madurai. The GST Council also decided on the reports of three other GoMs. They recommended use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to ensure better data and compliance issue. For extension of GST compensation after June 30, some states were heard.
