Numbers are not yet lining up for Rank after Covid
One of Britain’s biggest operators of gambling venues has issued a profit warning after admitting that it is struggling to kick-start a recovery from the effects of the pandemic.
Rank, which runs Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo, said that in the three months to the end of March net gaming revenues from its casinos were down 14 per cent on the equivalent period in 2019.
Its UK bingo halls fared even worse, with net gaming revenues down 25 per cent, although Enracha, its Spanish bingo business, continued to recover, with revenues down only 2 per cent on pre-pandemic levels.
Its digital operations were also more resilient, down by a mere 1 per cent, with Grosvenor’s online takings up 3 per cent and Mecca down
