Norway Seeks to Have More Control on Offshore Gambling Websites

Norway is seeking to exert more control over Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for the purposes of suspending access to unauthorized gambling websites. Norway has submitted a consultation paper to the European Commission to secure permission for its national gaming regulator to help combat offshore operators. Sweden appointed a black market lead in 2020, and the Netherlands continues to seek and penalize offshore operator.
Norway is considering DNS blocking as a measure to prevent illegal gambling websites from accessing vulnerable customers. The government will get in touch with the gambling operators to convince them to pull out of the market. Norway is revising its Gambling Act and wants to have more control over offshore gambling sites. Poland has been able to shrink the offshore online gambling market to 25% in 2020.
