North Dakota Governor Rejects Tribes’ Request for Online Gambling Monopoly
Governor Doug Burgum has rejected Native American tribes' request for a monopoly for online gambling.
Tribes in North Dakota want to extend their online and sports betting product offering beyond the restrictions of their reservation territories to cover the whole state. Governor Burgum has rejected the request as online gambling is still illegal in the state of North Dakotas. However, as per the compact agreement with the tribes, in case the states legalizes gambling and online betting, the tribe will be eligible to offer gambling services beyond their territories.
Burgum approved the North Dakota Indian Tribes' request for a monopoly on gambling. He also decreased the legal age for gambling at the tribes' five casinos. Now all North Dakotans age 19 and over can gamble at Native American casinos, before they had to be 21 or over to use their gambling services. The governor's office also allowed betting with credit and debit cards.
