NFL-themed slot machines coming to Oregon casinos
The NFL regular season begins Thursday night, and the league is deepening its ties to the gambling industry.
NFL-themed slot machines went live in some casinos around the country as Aristocrat Gaming’s NFL Super Bowl Jackpots slot machines rolled out. The slot machines are now playable at casinos in Southern California, Oklahoma and Connecticut.
The machines allow fans to select their favorite team. After selecting their team, individuals can customize their gaming experience further by loading team-related imagery, videos of key game moments and stadium anthems.
Other features inspired by elements of NFL gameplay, such as “Overtime Cash,” “Super Bowl Link,” “NFL Kickoff,” “Winning Drive,” and “Rings of Victory,” will be added to the machines throughout the remainder of the year and into 2024.
The slot machines mark the latest move by the NFL as it embraces gambling. Less than a decade ago, the league wanted nothing to do with being even remotely associated with gambling. The league’s attitude changed with the 2018 Supreme Court decision, which paved the way for states to adopt sports wagering.
The NFL, which rarely turns down an opportunity earn more money, saw another revenue stream. While the league strengthens its ties with the gambling industry, it is cracking down on players who gamble. Ten players have been suspended this year for violating the league’s sports betting policy.
