Nebraska Regulator Is Yet to Draft Casino Regulations
Nebraska voters approved the addition of casino gaming at horse racing venues last November. Regulators are yet to draft the rules and regulations under which this type of activity will be conducted. The Racing and Gaming Commission is in the very early stages of creating the regulatory framework underwhich future casinos would operate. Governor Pete Ricketts signed a separate measure that authorized sports betting.
The formal casino license application process is likely to start early next year. Caesars Entertainment and Columbus Exposition and Racing will jointly operate a casino and racetrack in the Nebraska City of Columbus. The complex is projected to cost $75 million and be complete by late 2022. There are also plans for new racing tracks with casinos in Bellevue, Gering, Kimball, North Platte, and York.
