Mega Millions jackpot rises to $379 million

THIS IS BREAKING NEWS. AND WE ARE FOLLOWING BREAKING NEWS OUT OF MOORE COUNTY THIS AFTERNOON. DUKE ENERGY NOW SAYS THAT THAT SUBSTATION EQUIPMENT THAT WAS DAMAGED OVER THE WEEKEND IS REPAIRED. DUKE ENERGY SAYS THAT IT DOES EXPECT THAT POWER TO BE FULLY RESTORED BY THIS EVENING. IF YOU REMEMBER, POWER WAS KNOCKED OUT TO MORE THAN 40,000 PEOPLE AFTER SOMEONE SHOT EQUIPMENT AT TWO SUBSTATIONS. POWER WILL GRADUALLY BE TURNED BACK ON THROUGHOUT THE DAY AS DUKE ENERGY TESTS THAT EQUIPMENT. AND AS OF LATE THIS MORNING, FEWER THAN 20,000 CUSTOMERS WERE STILL WITHOUT POWER THERE IN THE COUNTY. OF COURSE, WE WILL HAVE A DEEPER LOOK INTO THE SITUATION IN MOORE COUNTY IN JUST A LITTLE BIT. BUT FIRST, WE DO HAVE TO GET OVER TO OUR WEATHER FORECAST BECAUSE IT IS JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT IS KIND OF RUN THE DAY SO FAR. IN FACT, LOOKING AT THESE WIND, THESE RAINDROPS THERE ON THE CAMERA OVER GREENSBOROUGH. AND THAT’S WHAT YOU EXPECT WHEN YOU WALK OUT. YEAH. AND IT’S BEEN THIS WAY FOR, WHAT, 36 HOURS NOW. WE’VE HAD SOME SOME WET WEATHER IN THE FORECAST, TOO. AND CHRISTINE, NOW WE DO HAVE SOME LOW CLOUDS IN THE AREA TO A FEW RAINDROPS HAVE BEEN POPPING UP HERE AND THERE OVER MUCH OF THE REGION. THAT’S A LIVE LOOK AT WENDOVER AVENUE. LOTS OF FOLKS GOING TO LUNCH, PERHAPS GOING NEARBY TO A FRIENDLY CENTER AND TRY TO GET SOME SHOPPING IN AND KNOCK SOME THINGS OFF YOUR CHRISTMAS TO DO LIST. WE HAVE 54 DEGREES CURRENTLY. DEW POINT AT 53 ARE PRETTY SATURATED, WHILE WE STILL CAN’T SHAKE THIS LOW CLOUD COVER. THE SOUTHWEST WINDS ARE STARTING TO PICK UP. IT’S GOING TO HELP WARM TEMPERATURES. DO WE GET TO 60? THAT’S THE BIG QUESTION TODAY. WE’RE GOING TO NEED TO CHANGE THE SITUATION AND FOR US TO GET THERE. WE’VE GOT ABOUT ONE, ONE AND A HALF MILES OF VISIBILITY FROM CHARLOTTE TO GREENSBOROUGH ALONG 85. WE’RE STARTING TO SEE SOME FOG IMPROVEMENTS WITH SOME CLEARING, AT LEAST FROM A LOW CLOUD PERSPECTIVE, DOWN LOW IN SEVERAL OTHER COMMUNITIES. BUT ON TOP OF THAT, WE’VE HAD SOME PRETTY STEADY SHOWERS AND SOME DECENT RAINFALL COVERAGE WITH RAIN LIKELY TO CONTINUE. WELL INTO THE AFTERNOON AND THEN START TO TAPER OFF FROM THERE WE GO A LITTLE WIDER ON THE VIEW. WE’VE GOT ANOTHER AREA OF RAIN COMING OUT OF TENNESSEE AFTER A LITTLE BIT OF A GAP AND THEN MORE BACKING THAT UP. SO WHAT I THINK WILL HAPPEN IS THIS ACCESS WILL START TO SLIDE A LITTLE BIT FARTHER SOUTH AS IT STARTS TO PROGRESS EASTWARD. AND THAT WILL HELP TAKE US OUT OF SOME OF THOSE EVENING RAIN CHANCES. BUT WE’RE WE’RE IN IT FOR MUCH OF THE AFTERNOON. I HAVE NOTICED THE LAST FEW HOURS AT SOUTHWEST WIND STARTING TO PAY SOME DIVIDENDS. WARMING TEMPERATURES AT LEAST TO 54. IT’S UP TWO DEGREES FROM LAST HOUR. 56 CURRENTLY IN BURLINGTON, 67 IN DANVILLE. OBVIOUSLY, SOME WARMER POCKETS, BUT THAT COOL KIND OF A CLOUD AND FOG SITUATION KEEPING OUR TEMPERATURES IN CHECK. AVERAGE TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 60 THIS AFTERNOON. SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL GET SOME WORK DONE AND GET US CLOSE TO THERE. AND THEN WE KIND OF HOVER THERE FOR MUCH OF THE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT LOWS BY TOMORROW MORNING WILL BE DOWN IN THE LOWER FIFTIES, BUT NOT TERRIBLY COLD. IN FACT, THAT’S CLOSER TO OUR NORMAL HIGH FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. WE’RE NOT COMPLETELY DONE WITH THE RAIN THIS WEEK. WE’LL TALK ABOUT ONE MORE ROUND OF WET WEATHER THAT WE’LL HAVE TO DEAL WITH BEFORE THE WEEKEND. WE’LL GET YOU READY FOR THAT WITH YOUR FULL FORECAST COMING UP. ALL RIGHT. THANKS FOR THOSE UPDATES, BRIAN. WITH NEW HERE IN NOON GRANT. POLICE ARE NOW SEARCHING FOR A SUSPECT WHO ESCAPED POLICE CUSTODY. TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT YOUR SCREEN HERE. OFFICERS ARRESTED 37 YEAR OLD TIMOTHY WALLINGTON ON AN OUTSTANDING ARREST WARRANT EARLIER TODAY. NOW, WHILE TAKING THAT SUSPECT TO JAIL, POLICE SAY THAT WALLINGTON REMOVED HIS CUFFS REACHED WITH THE BARS IN THE WINDOW AND OPENED THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. HE WAS LAST SEEN RUNNING NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF WEST ELM STREET AND SOUTH MAPLE STREET THERE IN GRAHAM. INVESTIGATORS SAY THAT WALLINGTON IS STILL AT LARGE AT THIS HOUR, BUT IS NOT BELIEVED TO BE A DANGER TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. WE HAD NOW TO THE NATION’S CAPITAL. THIS IS WHERE THE US SUPREME COURT IS HEARING A CASE OUT OF NORTH CAROLINA THAT COULD CHANGE THE FUTURE OF VOTING ACROSS OUR COUNTRY. STATE REPUBLICANS FILED A SUIT SEEKING THE FINAL WORD ON ELECTION MAPS AND VOTING LAWS. RIGHT NOW, THE STATE SUPREME COURT DOES HAVE THAT FINAL SAY. THE COURT USED THAT POWER TO THROW OUT THE REPUBLICAN MAP FOR CONGRESSIONAL SEATS IN THE LAST ELECTION. REPUBLICANS ARE USING A THEORY THAT’S KNOWN AS THE INDEPENDENT STATE LEGISLATURE DOCTRINE. NOW, THIS CLAIMS THAT STATE LAWMAKERS, NOT STATE COURTS, HAVE THE RIGHT TO DROP ALL VOTING MAPS AND MAKE THOSE VOTING LAWS. WELL, AS THAT POWER IS BEGINNING TO BE RESTORED IN MORE COUNTY, THERE ARE NOW NEW QUESTIONS ABOUT WHETHER A DEATH THERE IN THE COUNTY IS CONNECTED TO THAT OUTAGE. OUR PARTNERS IN D.C. AFFILIATE WRAL IS NOW REPORTING A PERSON WAS IN THEIR PINEHURST HOME AND DID NOT HAVE POWER WHEN THEY DIED. IT’S UNCLEAR AT THIS TIME IF IT WAS AN UNRELATED MEDICAL CONDITION OR THOSE COLD TEMPERATURES HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEIR DEATH. IF THE BLACKOUT IS TO BLAME FOR THAT DEATH, THE PERSON WHO FOUND RESPONSIBLE FOR ATTACKING THOSE SUBSTATIONS COULD FACE MORE CHARGES. AND A CURFEW HAS BEEN PUT IN PLACE THERE IN MOORE COUNTY AS THE INVESTIGATION INTO WHAT CAUSED THOSE OUTAGES CONTINUES. NOW, WE’VE LEARNED THAT IN JUST THREE DAYS BEFORE THE ATTACK, THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY ISSUED A NATIONAL TERRORISM ADVISORY SYSTEM BULLETIN. THE AGENCY WARNED PEOPLE MOTIVATED BY WARNED PEOPLE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO ARE MOTIVATED BY A RANGE OF IDEOLOGICAL BELIEFS AND PERSONAL GRIEVANCES, COULD BE PLOTTING ATTACKS ON THE NATION’S CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE. SO FAR, NO POSSIBLE MOTIVE FOR THAT INCIDENT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED. WE WANT TO FIND WHO DID IT. WE WANT TO FIND THE MOTIVE. BUT CERTAINLY WE NEED TO BE DILIGENT AND VIGILANT, KNOWING THAT OUR ELECTRI
