Members of NY Mafia Arrested on Illegal Gambling Charges
Six members of the New York crime family were arrested on various charges including illegal gambling.
Six members of the Genovese crime family were arrested on Tuesday. They were accused of illegal gambling and loansharking. They are accused by prosecutors of attaching patrons to insurmountable piles of debt.
The Genovese crime family has been active since the 1890s and operates in New York City. The recent arrests were a major victory for prosecutors in the U.S. looking to exterminate the mob’s influence. The most prominent American crime families are the Gambino, Lucchese, Colombo, and the Bonanno groups. Six mobsters were alleged to have partaken in a racketeering enterprise affecting interstate and foreign commerce from 2011-2022. They are also accused of accruing income through extortion, including lines of credit, operating illegal gaming, and other crimes.
The FBI calls La Cosa Nostra one of the foremost organized criminal threats to American society. Six members of Genovese gang were arrested on Tuesday and charged with various crimes. They could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The case has been given to U.S. District Judge John G. Koeltl.
