Mega Millions: Michigan player wins $2M with online ticket
A Mega Millions ticket sold online in Michigan earned $2 million in prize money in Friday's drawing while the overall jackpot continues to grow.
No one won the $1.35-billion Mega Millions jackpot drawing on Friday, causing the jackpot to swell to a record-setting $1.55 billion ($757.2 million if the winner opts for a cash payout), according to the Mega Millions website.
The next drawing is Tuesday, Aug. 8.
The $2-million Michigan ticket matched five white balls in Friday's drawing. The match would have paid $1 million but, because the player included the optional Megaplier — available for an extra $1 — the winnings were doubled to $2 million.
As of Monday morning, the $2 million winner had yet to claim the prize, said Jake Harris, Michigan Lottery player relations manager.
Meanwhile, players have until 10:45 p.m. Tuesday to purchase tickets in store or online for that night's 11 p.m. drawing.
If the estimated jackpot total stands, it will topple the previous Mega Millions jackpot record, which is $1.537 billion, won by a player in South Carolina.
