Lawmakers calling for casino licensing in NYC area.
Lawmakers and casino workers union want to see New York City area receive licensing approval for commercial gaming. The goal is to benefit the state and create jobs.
Senator Gary Pretlow is a long-time gambling advocate. He is the chairman of the New York Assembly Committee on Gaming and Wagering. It is expected that Empire City slot parlor operated by MGM Resorts and the Resort World by Genting properties will receive two of three licenses. Senator Joe Addabbo is also on board, agreeing that licensing needs to happen this year.
There is a lot of interest in licensing a third casino in New York City area. Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts and Hard Rock International are interested in the license. Michael O'Keefe wants to create a gaming venue in midtown Manhattan. It is unclear who will be awarded the third license but it will see major changes in NYC area once completed.
