Integration Update: The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Will Become Part of MGM Rewards Starting February 1, 2024
Wild Casino

MGM Hotels and Resorts have informed members of the MGM Rewards program that The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will finally be integrated into the MGM portfolio, including the rewards program, from February 1, 2024.

MGM purchased the Cosmopolitan in 2022 as part of a property reshuffle that saw the Mirage being sold to Hard Rock, yet so far, the company was tight-lipped as far as the integration of the Cosmo was concerned.

The affiliation with a specific players club is important for guests, most of which are gambling at the casino. as the associated benefits are an integral part of the package.

Players Club benefits include items such as line privileges, bonuses on gaming activity, F&B credits, airport transportation, and room upgrades. Currently, Cosmopolitan still uses the Identity program, but this will migrate over to MGM Rewards in February. Interested players with tier status can already receive a status match.

Now MGM sent out an email to members informing them of all the details regarding the transition:

DRUMROLL PLEASE…

It’s The Moment You’ve Been Waiting For

On February 1, 2024, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will become part of MGM Rewards.

Get ready to earn & redeem with MGM Rewards at the most unique luxury resort & casino on The Las Vegas Strip. …

It’s been quite an up and down with the Cosmo, which has changed hands several times in the decade it’s been around. Hopefully, the hotel will find a good home in the MGM family of hotels but avid players and regulars of the Cosmo will definitely miss the Identity program.

Here are some important bullet points from the FAQ:

  • Identity Membership & Rewards is the loyalty program of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which will be transitioning to MGM Rewards as of February 1, 2024.
  • As part of the ongoing transition of The Cosmopolitan to MGM Resorts, we are excited to share that MGM Rewards will officially become the loyalty program of The Cosmopolitan as of February 1, 2024. Until then, Identity Membership & Rewards and MGM Rewards will remain separate programs.
  • February 1, 2024 will be the first day to access your combined balances in one place through MGM Rewards. At that time, Identity members will receive an email from MGM Rewards with a new member number and further instructions on accessing your new MGM Rewards account and printing your physical card. If you already have an MGM Rewards account, you will continue to access your account as usual.
  • Identity members will retain their offers and benefits through January 31, 2024 and their Identity Tier Points balance will be converted to their membership with MGM Rewards. In February, Identity members will unlock new offers and tier benefits reflective of their MGM Rewards Tier Status.
  • As a Cosmopolitan hotel guest, you can currently apply eligible food and beverage charges at any Las Vegas MGM Rewards destination to your Cosmopolitan room – that includes Bellagio, ARIA, Vdara, MGM Grand, Signature, Park MGM, Mandalay Bay, Delano Las Vegas, New York-New York, Luxor, and Excalibur. Likewise, hotel guests at any Las Vegas MGM Rewards destination can apply eligible Cosmopolitan food and beverage charges to their rooms. All applicable room charges are eligible to earn loyalty currency (either Identity Points at The Cosmopolitan or MGM Rewards Points at MGM Rewards destinations).

This has taken quite some time, and customers were already getting impatient, not to say annoyed that there there was no proper information stream to know when things are finally aligning with other properties and the loyalty programs.

The Cosmopolitan has a longstanding partnership with Marriott and last month, MGM also announced Marriott as their new hospitality partner:

For the time being (until the end of September), the partnership with Hyatt is still active, but it will switch to Marriott starting in October.

It was announced last year (post-purchase) that the Cosmo will retain the affiliation with Marriott & Marriott Rewards:

MGM issued the following press release as the new date of Cosmopolitan’s integration became known:

MGM Resorts announced today The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will transition from its Identity loyalty program to the company’s award-winning MGM Rewards loyalty program beginning February 1, 2024, unlocking the ability for members to earn and redeem points across the company’s 20 premier U.S. destinations.

“Welcoming The Cosmopolitan into MGM Rewards is an important and exciting milestone in the evolution of our loyalty program experience,” said Steve Zanella, Chief Commercial Officer for MGM Resorts. “The Cosmopolitan will add an entirely new set of ways for gaming and non-gaming customers to enjoy all of the unforgettable, exceptional moments MGM Resorts and Las Vegas have to offer.”

MGM Rewards is committed to ensuring a seamless transition. Identity members will receive communications prior to the integration with detailed information about the transition to MGM Rewards. Until the transition, Identity members may continue to play and earn with Identity and their earnings will be recognized when determining their MGM Rewards Tier Status in 2024. Identity members will retain their offers and benefits through January 31, 2024 and all Identity Points will carry over to their membership with MGM Rewards consistent with the program rules. Guests who are currently members of both programs can continue to utilize their Identity benefits and earn and use Identity Points at The Cosmopolitan through January 31, 2024 knowing that upon integration all Points will transfer to their MGM Rewards accounts. Combined Tier Credits will be used to determine Tier Status with MGM Rewards.

Additionally, beginning in February with the program’s integration, all MGM Rewards members will have the ability to earn and use MGM Rewards Points, Slot Dollars and Tier Credits across their experiences at The Cosmopolitan, including the resort’s incredible array of accommodations, dining, entertainment, slots and table games. …

Good, so we finally know what will transpire. I’m looking forward to using the MGM Noir Limousine Transfers as a Cosmo guest. Since the Mirage is gone, I really didn’t like staying at MGM properties much. Sure, I add stays at cheap properties to boost my Hyatt status but I’m not actually sleeping at these hotels (Excalibur).

Conclusion

MGM has finally released details about the integration of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas which the group purchased in 2022.

Beginning February 1, 2024 MGM Rewards members will be able to utilize the full portfolio of benefits under the rewards scheme, which will change from Identity to MGM Rewards.

It took MGM more than 1.5 years (almost two years really) to get things fully operational but such developments always take time in Las Vegas and MGM itself isn’t exactly a company known for speed.
