Illegal Gambling Mastermind Supposedly Linked to Canada's Prime Minister
Wei Wei, 52, was arrested by York Regional Police. He is allegedly involved in the daily operation of a high-roller casino mansion near Toronto. Prime Minister Trudeau avoided questions about his meetings with Mr. Wei.
32 people were found without a license in the gaming mansion. Mr. Wei was one of them. He has been involved in political circles of Canada and has had two in-person meetings with Prime Minister Trudeau. The first one was at a CA$1,500 Liberal fundraiser held at the home of a Chinese-Canadian business executive. Some attendees made donations to the Trudeau Foundation and the University of Montreal.
Mr. Wei was arrested this summer and now he is facing a total of 21 charges. The police raided the premium mansion in Markham and seized CA$9 million worth of assets. The investigation continues. Prime Minister Trudeau stated that the Liberal Party aims to make its fundraising events completely transparent with a full list of all attendees.
