As a YouGov poll estimates that there are around a million women in the UK affected by gambling problems, gambling harm charity Gamble Aware has announced a new awareness campaign.
The campaign will be the first aimed specifically at women, who’s problems with gambling harm have been under represented and under supported in the media. In fact, gambling being seen as a male pursuit could be preventing women from getting the help they require.
New statistics released this week suggested that online gambling sites aimed at women saw spikes of activity between December and March, with traffic raising by 29% in that period.
While the number of women tackling their gambling addiction using services like Gamble Aware and Gamstop has doubled in the last 5 years, these figures are still just a small fraction of the women who are suffering. This is where Gamble Aware’s new campaign comes in.
The campaign is designed to highlight the signs of problem gambling in women and will be available on TV, radio and social media from now until March, but you can view it on the GambleAware YouTube channel right now.
