Former Las Vegas Casino Exec Sentenced To 1 Year In Prison In College Admissions Scandal
Gamal Abdelaziz was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for bribing his daughter to get into the University of Southern California as a fake basketball recruit.
Abdelaziz, 64, was an executive at Wynn Resorts and MGM Resort. He was convicted in October on two counts of fraud conspiracy and one count of conspiracy to commit federal programs bribery. Abdelazz paid $300,000 to have his daughter admitted to USC. The money was paid to the Key Worldwide Foundation, a fake charity run by college admissions consultant William "Rick" Singer. Singer pleaded guilty in 2019 to a combination of charges including racketeering conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy. Dozens of other parents and college officials have been charged in a wider DOJ investigation into the college admission scheme.
