Florida Division of Gaming Enforcement puts local casinos on notice

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell and staff are working closely with the Florida Gaming Control Commission, Division of Gaming Enforcement, notifying local businesses who may be operating an illegal slot machine(s) or gambling device(s) in violation of section 849.16, Florida Statutes.
Slot machines are regulated devices in the State of Florida and may only be operated on tribal property and within licensed pari-mutuel facilities located in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. It is illegal to operate or possess a slot machine outside of a licensed facility in the State of Florida.
Operating or possessing slot machines outside of a licensed facility may subject you to criminal sanctions, ranging from sixty (60) days in jail to five (5) years in the Florida State Prison, as well as administrative penalties in the amount of $10,000 per machine.
Our goal is to educate the public and local business owners on these laws. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work closely with Law Enforcement partners to ensure these businesses are operating within Florida law.
