Finland: Veikkaus to introduce mandatory authentication for slot machines

As a way to prevent problem gambling among its customer the Finnish gambling operator Veikkaus is going to launch mandatory authentication for its land-based slot machines.
The operator announced that the authentication would be made mandatory for gaming on any of the slot machines owned by the Veikkaus from January 12, 2021.
Before operating any slot machines the player would have to authenticate themselves which would help in keeping the tabs on number of times player indulges in the gambling or the amount he or she puts in.
According to report by Gambling Insider, Jari Heino, SVP, channels and sales, said: “Mandatory authentication is a very efficient way of preventing problem gambling and facilitating age limit controls,”
He added, “The players can also choose to ban their Slots Gaming completely as of 12 January 2021, if they wish. Later, we will also be making other responsibility tools available for players. Compulsory authentication will be adopted at Veikkaus Arcades in summer 2021.”
