Estimated $183 million winning Powerball ticket sold in Cheshire
CHESHIRE, CT (WFSB) - An estimated $183 million Powerball jackpot ticket was sold in Connecticut, according to the Connecticut Lottery.
The CT Lottery held a news conference at 1 p.m.
It revealed that the Powerball winner has yet to come forward.
Officials say the winner has 180 days to claim the prize.
CT Lottery confirmed the Channel 3 that the ticket was sold at a One Stop on South Main Street in Cheshire.
The winner gets a choice of either a lump sum payment or getting the winnings over 30 yearly payments.
According to Powerball, it's a one in 24.9 chance to win any prize in its game. For the jackpot, it's one in 292.2 million.
Many people Channel 3 spoke with said the winning ticket couldn't have been sold at a better place in town.
“Everybody goes there, it’s like a family atmosphere," said Bob Leonard, owner, Seems Like Yesterday antique shop. "Regulars going every day. It’s wicked exciting, right here in Cheshire, who would’ve thought?”
The CT Lottery said the store will receive a $100,000 selling bonus.
"They're great guys that own the store. Everybody goes there, it's like a family atmosphere. Regulars go in every day, it's, it's wicked exciting. Right here in Cheshire, who would've thought," Leonard said.
For the jackpot, the cash out is around $122 million.
"As it happens, [Tuesday] is our 50th Anniversary, so it’s a great way to start off our celebration!" said Tara Chozet, director of public relations and social media, Connecticut Lottery Corporation.
The winning numbers for Feb. 14 were 16, 25, 27, 49, 55, and a Powerball of 17. The Power Play was 3X.
It's the second-highest lottery win in Connecticut history.
It's a one in 292.2 million chance to get the powerball jackpot.
No details about the winner were released.
A winner in Connecticut can not remain anonymous; however, the person can keep their name of the online winners list.
The CT Lottery also said someone won the Lucky for Life game, winning $25,000 a year for life.
