TAMPA, Fla. — An nurse at a west-central Florida hospital, who has been treating COVID-19 patients for the past several weeks, hit a special jackpot at a Tampa casino on Saturday.

Duane Kelloway, 50, of Spring Hill, won some money playing the slot machine at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and that amount pushed the casino’s winnings this year past $1 billion, WTVT reported.

As a reward, the casino gave Kelloway a 2022 BMW X7 M50i vehicle that lists for $112,245, the television station reported.

Kelloway, an operating room nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital-North in the Tampa suburb of Lutz, was shocked when he learned about his jackpot win. The car was an especially timely gift since his 2013 Ford Taurus has logged nearly 200,000 miles, WTVT reported.

“I thought I was going to pass out,” Kelloway told the television station. “To be so lucky to be here at the right time and the right place and at the right machine.”

Kelloway said he was originally going to visit the casino on Friday, but his wife, who is also a nurse, convinced him to wait an extra day.

Kelloway was not the only winner on Saturday. All 1,130 slot players who had their Seminole Wild Card properly inserted into a machine within 15 minutes of the milestone announcement won $100 Bonus Free Play, WTVT reported.
