China Reports 11m Daily Online Gamblers in New Security Report
China's Ministry of Public Security published a report on the progress made against illegal online cross-border gambling in 2020.
China is clamping down on illegal gambling activities. According to the Ministry of Public Security, 7,500 people were arrested in 2020. The Ministry has successfully eliminated over 2,260 gambling websites, 890 technical support hubs, and 1,960 payment processing platforms.
China has been cracking down on illegal gambling activities. China recently suspended TripAdvisor in the country. Chinese authorities have arrested 600 Chinese nationals in Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific. 55 Chinese citizens were kidnapped on gambling trips between 2017 and 2019. China reminds citizens to resist invitations to travel abroad for the purposes of gambling.
There are estimated 11.4 million Chinese citizens who gamble every day. Guangdong has the most number of gamblers, with 2.7 million registered. Tether is a popular cryptocurrency that protects the identity of its users.
