Now that the Warhammer 40K Darktide release date has arrived, players are experiencing the Darktide character creation and customization options and getting to grips with the best Warhammer 40K Darktide weapons before diving headfirst into the intense co-op horde action.

Can you play Warhammer 40K Darktide in single-player?

Unfortunately, Warhammer 40K Darktide does not let you play in single-player. Being primarily a co-op experience, Darktide is balanced around having four players in a match at all times. This is necessary to be able to defeat the huge hordes of enemies and the challenging elite units.

However, for those of you looking to play Warhammer 40K Darktide solo, there is a solution. While Darktide does not currently offer hosting of private matches or offline play, there are bots that will fill empty slots. This means that, while you can’t play exclusively in single-player or bot lobbies, you can join empty lobbies for missions and ready up right away, allowing bots to fill the remaining empty slots. Players are still able to join throughout the duration of the mission, though the chances are diminished given the mission is in progress. Furthermore, bots will also enter lobbies if a player quits or disconnects during a mission.

So, while you can’t play Warhammer 40K Darktide in single-player, there are opportunities to play by yourself with AI teammates as you slash and shoot your way through hordes of infected.

For those of you looking to get stuck in, you can find out whether we’re getting a Warhammer 40K Darktide console release date and the answer to the ever-important question: is Warhammer 40K Darktide is on Game Pass? The Emperor awaits!
