Bipartisan legislation proposed for long-desired Lake convention center finds home adjacent to casino Gary jackpot
The bill would create the convention and entertainment district in an area bounded by West 25th Avenue to the north, Cline Avenue, Broadway to east and Ridge Road to south. It would allow Lake County to adopt an increase in the county’s innkeeper tax of 3%, part of which must be deposited in a fund. The city of Gary could impose a food and beverage tax within the development area. A riverboat owner in Vigo County would pay .5% of its gross receipts to Gary in exchange for the river boat license. Mayor Jerome Prince opposes this. He also opposes having the . 5% from the casino's gross revenues from being diverted to a public safety fund instead of coming to city for public security.
The Lake convention center is proposed for Lake Lake. It will be next to the casino Gary.
