Bellagio replacing trees that have died since December, Las Vegas Grand Prix

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Officials with Bellagio Hotel & Casino said that the trees installed December of last year are now being replaced.
FOX5′s Joe Vigil reported on the trees in late November. Watch his previous story through the player above. They were placed along Las Vegas Boulevard.
Officials told FOX5 the trees were monitored weekly after they were installed. In January, an arborist evaluated the trees in January and said they were healthy.
Come March, the trees were evaluated and their health worsened. A consensus was reached with an expert to replace the trees.
“After consulting with third party experts, we determined that several trees alongside Las Vegas Boulevard need replacing. We sustainably sourced trees that are designed to be durable and resilient for our environment. Our horticulture and landscaping teams continually evaluate our properties and make changes as needed to ensure we are doing what’s best for our guests and the environment,” MGM Resorts International said.
MGM says they conducted a search for sustainably sourced trees that could be durable and resilient in the Las Vegas valley environment.
“Like all of our other landscaping choices, responsible water stewardship is taken into consideration. We follow the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s guidelines on selecting appropriate trees for our area,” MGM said.
Officials say the pine trees near the lakeside are doing well.
Lane and sidewalk closures could be expected when the trees get replaced. No exact date was immediately provided.
