Barriers to online gambling and how to combat them
YouGov surveyed the obstacles that prevent people from gambling online. The results are specific to the UK, but they could reflect attitudes elsewhere.
48% of respondents haven't gambled in the last year because they don't trust gambling sites. 27% think the odds are stacked against them, and 21% don’t think they can or will win big. In gambling, the rules are in place to give players a chance to win and to make money. The primary safeguard is Random Number Generators or provably fair algorithms. The outcomes of the algorithm are registered on the blockchain.
11% of respondents think that gambling is immoral. 8% think it's against their beliefs. Licenced sites must take care of their players. Many jurisdictions require them to have responsible gambling policies in place.
10% of respondents are worried about overspending and 9% are concerned about addiction. 5% don't trust themselves. UK stopped people from paying to gamble with credit cards. Some operators have already taken the initiative not to allow payment with Credit.
10% of potential players don't trust operators or processing companies with their card details. The key to offering customers a reassuring online gambling experience is taking security seriously. If a potential customer sees they can pay with well-known processors and payment providers, they will feel more secure.
32% of respondents said they have no particular reason for not gambling online. One-third of players are neutral and haven't formed any negative opinions. Most player's negative perceptions come from the bad behaviour of a handful of operators. It's important to partner with a corporate service provider who shares your values.
