Australian MPs to Hear Personally from Victims of Gambling Harm
The parliamentary inquiry will look into the impact of live sports betting and loot boxes on the current gambling regulation regime in Australia. It will also consider the effectiveness of the gambling advertising regime enforced by the Australian Communications and Media Authority. 71% of respondents were in favor of a blanket ban on gambling ads. The aim of this inquiry is to reduce problem gambling and see if it can be prevented before it appears.
The federal government is conducting an inquiry into the promotion of sports gambling. It was put under pressure by the opposition to take stronger action against gambling companies. The inquiry will be accepting submissions until November. Next year, the inquiry starts touring the country to hear from victims of gambling addiction and their loved ones.
