Australian authorities to block four more gambling sites
The Australian Communicates and Media authority (ACMA) has requested that Australian internet service providers block four further illegal offshore gambling websites.
The illegal sites in questions are Bao Casino, Pokie Place, Reels of Joy and Ozwin Casino. The ACMA received several complaints about the sites and, following an investigation, found they were operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
The ACMA took its first blocking request in November 2019 and since then it has managed to block 263 illegal gambling websites.
The authority also started enforcing new illegal offshore gambling rules in 2017 and in that time over 130 illegal services have left the Australian market.
Website blocking is one out of many enforcement options available to authorities in Australial.
The ACMA says website blocking provides a valuable opportunity to alert the public to illegal gambling services.
One of the measures is to display a warning message whenever an individual tries to access the sites.
